KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Tian Chua has expressed his gratitude to the newly appointed Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal for lifting the immigration ban on him.
He also thanked Mohd Shafie for lifting the immigration ban on PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar.
Tian Chua said that the immigration ban imposed by the previous government had disallowed them from entering the state, but with the change in the ruling government, he hoped to build a new progressive Malaysia together.
"I will make it a point to see Datuk (Mohd) Shafie to thank him personally as soon as permissible, possibly during the Ramadan. It feels good that I am once again able to reach our rakyat in Sabah," he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, upon resuming office, Mohd Shafie had instructed an immediate lifting of the order restricting the visit of Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders to Sabah.
Tian Chua, who was two-term Batu Member of Parliament from 2008 to 2018, also recorded his gratitude to Sabah and Sarawak's voters for their 'huge' contribution of parliamentary seats to PH at the recently concluded general election.
He said their combined 25 multi-racial seats had enabled PH to secure a comfortable majority during the 14th general election.
"We thank the East Malaysians for their clearer support of the reform agenda by PH and Warisan," he added. — Bernama
