PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians have been urged to stay united by turning to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's commitment to preserving peace and well being of the nation as the point of reference for every action.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom (pix) said the King is the national sovereignty umbrella with obligation to give equal protection to the citizens of the country regardless of their race and religion.
He said besides being the pillar of stability and source of justice, His Majesty is also the thrust of solidarity and instrument of unity in diversity that exists in the country.
"Hence, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's oath of office contains the four aspects of the big responsibility entrusted on him, namely to justify and faithfully perform the duties in the administration of the country, to do that in accordance with the laws and Constitution, to uphold the rules of law and order, and to protect the religion of Islam," Jamil Khir said in a special Friday prayer sermon at the Putra Mosque here today.
The sermon, titled "Daulat Dijunjung, Kasih Disanjung" was delivered in conjunction with installation of Sultan Muhammad V as the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong last Monday.
Sultan Muhammad V also joined 10,000 Muslims to perform the Friday prayer at the mosque today, led by the Grand Imam of National Mosque Tan Sri Syaikh Ismail Muhammad.
Also present were Malaysian Islamic Development Department director-general Tan Sri Othman Mustapha.
During the sermon, Jamil Khir also expressed hope for the King to continue protecting the people and upholding Islam, hence empowering the implementation and enforcement of Islamic Sharia in the country.
He said Malaysians are lucky to have a King who is so humble and willing to set aside protocols to meet with his subjects in any given situation.
"Let us pledge our loyalty to the King and glorify his position as how the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah has shown us," he said.
Sultan Muhammad V, 47, was installed as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong last Monday to replace the Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah whose term as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong ended on Dec12, 2016. — Bernama
