Two children cheated death in Langkawi house fire

LANGKAWI: Two children cheated death when their house was engulfed in fire at Kampung Gelam, Mukim Kedawang here today.
It is learnt that the neighbours were quick as they prised the house metal grill door and saved the children who were six and 12-years-old.
A spokesperson from the Persiaran Putra Fire and Rescue Department said a team comprising of 15 rescuers were dispatched to the scene upon alerted about the incident at about 8.40am.
"The team found that the children were in safe condition following the neighbour's quick thinking and reaction.
"The victims were sent to the Langkawi Hospital for further treatment," he said.
The fire destroyed at least 70% of the house and the blaze was brought under control at about 8.58am.
The cause of the fire and the damage had yet to be ascertained.
