TAWAU: Newly crowned Youth World Muaythai champion, Daniel Fiedleans Maideh or better known as Olan Todak is a likeable boy among teachers and schoolmates at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanjung Batu Keramat, near here.
The school's headmaster, Rahmat Ariffin said Daniel did not abuse his muaythai skills or bully pupils in the school as the 12-year-old pupil had proven himself to be a disciplined leader as a class monitor when he was in Year Four and Five.
"In fact, we did not even know of Daniel's outstanding fighting prowess until his achievements came to light," he told Bernama.
"In school, Daniel is popular as a sprinter in 100m, 200m and 4x100m and we only knew of his talents when he won a muaythai competition here last year and his victory at the Youth World Championships has certainly put the name of Tawau on the world map."
It was reported yesterday, Daniel or Olan had defeated his opponent from Uzbekistan with a score of 10-9, 10-9 and 10-9 in the final of the 12-13 years boys' category on Tuesday in Bangkok, Thailand.
Daniel's latest triumph had added to his collection of gold medals including the National Youth Muaythai Tournament in Damansara Utama, Kuala Lumpur from July 6 to 9. — Bernama
