PETALING JAYA: More than 70 water tankers will be deployed to the 500 areas affected by the water disruption that is scheduled to take place from Tuesday to Friday, said a spokesperson for Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas).
"Due to the emergency repairs works that are being carried out at a water treatment plant, residents in different parts of the Klang Valley will experience temporary water supply disruption beginning tomorrow.
"Even though the repair works only takes around 10 hours, the duration of water supply restoration to the affected areas will differ depending on their geographical location and altitude," the spokesperson said.
According to a statement issued by Syabas last Friday, several areas in the Klang Valley will face water disruption from Tuesday to Friday as a result of the shutting down of the water treatment plant, due to critical equipment repair works by Syarikat Pengeluar Air Selangor Holdings Bhd (Splash).
"As a result of the total plant shutdown, areas in Petaling will face water supply disruption from March 6 (8am) to March 7 (9pm); Klang/ Shah Alam: March 6 (8am) to March 9 (9am); Gombak: March 6 (8am) to March 8 (12am); Kuala Lumpur: March 6 (8am) to March 8 (9pm); Kuala Langat: March 6 (8am) to March 7 (3pm); and Hulu Selangor: March 6 (8am) to March 7 (9pm)," Syabas said.
Nevertheless, Klang Valley residents and business operators whom theSun spoke to seemed unfazed by the disruption as they have planned ahead and have stored an adequate amount of water.
"This time around, we will be more prepared to face the disruption considering the ample amount of time we have to prepare," said Subang resident Anthony Lee, as his family has been filling up buckets with water since Saturday.
Another resident, Michelle Wong, said that she had stored water in four large containers for her family of five and hoped that it would be able to help them weather the period.
Wawasan restaurant operator Amy Lai said that she only started storing water on Sunday due to hygiene reasons, as she was afraid that the water would get contaminated if she started storing it too early.
