KUALA LUMPUR: British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Bhd (BAT Malaysia) shared its 2025 progress on Beyond Benih, the group’s flagship community investment programme that supports B40 communities through sustainable, community-led farm gardens.
Since its launch in 2022, the programme has benefitted around 155,000 beneficiaries by providing access to affordable, fresh produce grown through good agricultural practices.
To date, 22 community gardens have been established across Peninsular Malaysia, operated by 240 resident association (RA) members who lead daily operations.
These gardens drive sustainable livelihoods by enabling residents to grow their own produce: 60% is sold to beneficiaries at 30% below market price, and the remaining 40% at market price, generating revenue to sustain the gardens.
Beyond Benih is implemented in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DoA), local authorities and RAs, equipping communities with funding, resources, agricultural knowledge and technical guidance.
BAT Malaysia managing director Nedal Salem said the company remain committed to maintaining a tangible difference for Malaysians.
“By developing larger, higher-capacity gardens and expanding into new states, we aim to support even more families and build long-term resilience.
“Beyond Benih reflects our long-term commitment to empowering communities in meaningful, practical ways.
“BAT Malaysia aims to support an estimated 250,000 beneficiaries by the end of 2026,” he said in a statement.
Through the years, the programme has also received multiple recognitions at state-level events for innovation and community impact.
“My community garden continues to grow, and I’ve been able to build strong bonds and connections with the members of Beyond Benih. I can provide my family and community with much-needed, fresh, healthy vegetables.
“May this programme continue to achieve an even greater success,” Kampung Abdul Rahman Yassin, Kluang head of RA Siti Radziah Mohd Said said.
“We have gained many benefits, including learning how to farm, exercise, and strengthen community ties,” Monaliza Bahari from Kampung Abdul Rahman Yassin, Kluang, said.
