PETALING JAYA: Nestle Malaysia Bhd and MTT Shipping Sdn Bhd recently held a ship-blessing ceremony for container vessel MTT Bintangor at Westports on Pulau Indah, Port Klang, reflecting a logistics partnership in which Nestle cargo has been carried on MTTS vessels through an appointed freight forwarder for nearly a decade.
Nestle Malaysia CEO Juan Aranols said MTT Bintangor plays an important role in enhancing the robustness and flexibility of the company’s supply chain, supporting the ability to serve consumers consistently across Malaysia, including East Malaysia, while strengthening regional connectivity.
“Our relationship with MTT Shipping reflects a shared focus on operational excellence, long-term resilience and sustainable growth in logistics,“ he said in a statement.
MTT Bintangor plays an important role in supporting the efficient movement of Nestle goods across key domestic and Asean trade routes, ensuring the consistent availability of essential food and beverage products.
As established industry players in the country, the Nestle Malaysia and MTT Shipping partnership reflects shared priorities, including supply reliability, operational resilience, regional connectivity and sustainability.
The event underscores the importance of strategic industry relationships in strengthening Malaysia’s domestic and regional supply chain ecosystems.
As Malaysia’s leading fast-moving consumer goods company, Nestle Malaysia has a significant operational and commercial presence in East Malaysia. The company also exports its halal-certified, made-in-Malaysia products across the region, with Asean markets accounting for around one-third of total export sales.
Through the relationship with one of Malaysia’s largest domestic shipping lines, Nestle is now even better positioned to respond to shifting market demands, shorten delivery lead times, and enhance service reliability, particularly to Sabah and Sarawak, where supply chain robustness remains critical.
MTT Shipping Group executive chairman Datuk Seri Kenny Ong said MTT Bintangor reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable maritime operations and operational excellence, supported by modern, fuel-efficient technology.
“It also highlights the importance of long-standing relationships with customers such as Nestle, and creating value propositions for all our stakeholders as we work together to support reliable and resilient supply chain operations.”
The blessing ceremony to mark the deployment of MTT Bintangor was led by the vessel’s appointed “Godmother”.
The symbolic flower-blessing ritual, conducted on the ship’s deck, signified hopes for good fortune, safe passage, and smooth operations throughout the vessel’s service.
The event was attended by representatives from Nestle Malaysia and MTT Shipping.
With a capacity of 1,836 twenty-foot equivalent units, MTT Bintangor supports MTTS’s domestic and regional services and contributes to resilient supply chain operations. The vessel is equipped to support the carriage of temperature-sensitive cargo, which is particularly important for Nestlé’s ice cream and confectionery products, where temperature control and delivery efficiency are critical.
Sustainability is also a shared priority between Nestle Malaysia and MTT Shipping.
Nestlé is steadily advancing its net zero roadmap and environmental, social and governance goals, while MTT Shipping is aligning its operations with long-term carbon-reduction objectives toward carbon neutrality by 2050, alongside ongoing initiatives to improve fleet efficiency.
Together, these efforts contribute to more responsible, future-ready logistics and further support Nestle Malaysia’s ongoing investments to strengthen its end-to-end logistics infrastructure.
