KUALA LUMPUR: U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, has launched its Enterprise Innovation Platform (EIP) to serve as an innovation enabler supporting Malaysia’s digital and artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem.
The initiative aims to provide a neutral environment for enterprises, small and medium enterprises, startups, academia and public sector agencies to develop, test and commercialise 5G-Advanced (5G-A) use cases, proofs of concept and pilot projects.
U Mobile chief technology officer Woon Ooi Yuen said the EIP launch is in line with its drive to promote innovation and adoption of 5G-A and AI solutions.
“Our physical EIP Hub, launching in July 2026, may be powered by next gen 5G infrastructure and our ULTRA5G connectivity but it is really a neutral environment, meaning any enterprise, SME, startup, academia or public sector agency may leverage our platform, even if they are not our existing customers,” he said at the launch today.
Via EIP, Woon said, they may also tap into the expertise, tools and knowledge of the partners to develop, test and commercialise solutions.
“The partners we introduced today, who are global and local technology leaders in their own right, represent just the start and the list is expected to grow to meet evolving innovation needs.”
“We truly believe EIP will play a catalytic role and support the nation’s digital and AI ambitions under the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan,” he said.
The EIP Hub will feature an integrated innovation sandbox with 5G-A, cloud and edge access, Internet of Things (IoT) device lab, private network zones and live demonsration zones, and variety of tools such as network slicing simulators, digital twin environments and AR/VR toolkits to ensure innovation solutions or test cases are validated and deployable in a real-world environment.
The EIP collaboration framework is anchored on the develop, test and demonstrate approach and to support this initiative, a physical EIP Hub and sandbox that is slated to launch in July.
U Mobile has onboarded its first eight partners to the EIP to support the joint development and validation of 5G-A and AI use cases on the platform.
To support the range of innovation areas, the first group of EIP partners is divided into two categories – Anchor Partners and Technology Partners.
The Anchor Partners are Amazon Web Services, Huawei Malaysia, Palo Alto Networks and Qualcomm, which provide the core cloud, 5G-Advanced, cybersecurity and device technologies that enable and support the EIP Hub and sandbox environment.
Amazon Web Services supports the development and validation of cloud-native, data-intensive and AI-driven applications while Huawei Malaysia provides 5G-Advanced radio access and core network platforms, as well as AI-enabled systems, to support enterprise-grade testing and integration.
Palo Alto Networks contributes cybersecurity expertise and Zero Trust architecture guidance across network, cloud and application layers and Qualcomm enables solutions that leverage 5G connectivity, edge AI and intelligent devices to support enterprise use case development.
The Technology Partners are Braintree Technologies, China Mobile International, Meraque Group and ZTE Malaysia, which bring applied tools, deployment experience and industry expertise to support the development and validation of enterprise use cases.
Braintree Technologies contributes agritech and automation use cases involving drones, robotics, geographic information systems, IoT and AI for field-based testing while China Mobile International provides deployment-informed 5G expertise and applied research and development insights.
Meraque Group contributes drone, robotics and autonomous system use cases focused on low-latency control and real-time data streaming and ZTE Malaysia provides network and AI platforms, as well as device and edge components, to support multipartner enterprise solution testing and demonstrations.
