MDEC’s data driven enterprise programme to empower data-based local businesses

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is committed to further empower data-based local businesses through its Data Driven Enterprise (DDE) programme .

In a statement today, MDEC said it is in collaboration with research firm International Data Corporation (IDC) to launch a readiness assessment tool for data, analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) for use by local companies to assess their readiness to become data-driven organisations.

“A recent IDC study on the adoption of AI found that only about 52 per cent of companies and businesses in the Asia Pacific are in the early stages of adopting the technology.

“In Malaysia, a study by Microsoft found that 85 per cent of companies in the country are aware of the importance of using data but only a small number have prepared their organisations to use it,” it said.

MDEC said the launch of the free DDE is expected to enable local businesses to better understand their needs and in turn, increase their readiness for technology.

“This move is vital to enable local businesses to get the support they need to improve operations, tactics and strategies as well as expand business assets widely,” it said.

Realising the huge growth potential of the digital economy, MDEC said the government had launched the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL) earlier in the year.

“Among the prime emphasis under the MyDIGITAL is the construction of hyper-scale data centres with investments of RM12 billion to RM15 billion in collaboration with leading global technology companies including Microsoft, Google and Amazon.

“Through the assistance provided by MDEC, several companies in Malaysia have incorporated data technology into their operations such as Hartalega Holdings Bhd, Mah Sing Group and Permodalan Nasional Bhd,” it added. - Bernama
