The construction of SMK Semop in Daro, costing RM10.56 million, was completed 164 days earlier than scheduled.
MUKAH: Students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Semop and SMK Dalat are currently enjoying more comfortable, modern and conducive learning facilities following the completion of two educational infrastructure development projects worth over RM37.7 million.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the projects involved the construction of a 12-classroom new building at SMK Semop and an 18-classroom replacement building at SMK Dalat, with both projects carried out by the Special Project Team 2 (PPK2) of the Public Works Department (JKR).

He said the handover of both projects reflected the MADANI Government’s ongoing commitment, through the Ministry of Works (KKR) and JKR, to ensuring students and school personnel, especially those in rural areas in Sarawak, have access to quality, comfortable and safe educational facilities.
“This initiative not only provides a more modern, safe and conducive teaching and learning environment, but also serves as a catalyst for producing a future generation that is knowledgeable, skilled and resilient in facing increasingly complex global challenges,” he said at the project handover ceremony at SMK Dalat here recently.
He added that the construction of SMK Semop in Daro, costing RM10.56 million, was completed 164 days earlier than scheduled.
The project involved the construction of an academic block housing 12 classrooms equipped with various support facilities to enhance comfort and effectiveness in the teaching and learning process.
Meanwhile, the redevelopment project of SMK Dalat, costing RM27.2 million, was completed on Dec 30, 2025, 10 days earlier than scheduled.
Apart from providing 18 new classrooms, the project also involved the construction of workshops, laboratories, school administrative facilities, a canteen, a surau, a modern sewage system and a high-capacity water tank tower.
Both projects used Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Industrialised Building System (IBS) technologies to ensure a higher-quality, more organised and efficient construction system, while creating a safer and more sustainable learning environment.
Nanta said the successful implementation of the design-and-build projects demonstrated the government’s determination to strengthen the development of education in Sarawak by providing facilities that can bring long-term benefits for the people.
