Anwar and Trump hold brief meeting before Tokyo departure

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim met with US President Donald Trump to review bilateral outcomes and discuss KL Peace Accord progress.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a brief meeting with United States President Donald Trump before departing for Tokyo.

The meeting occurred following Trump’s two-day visit to Malaysia for ASEAN summit meetings.

Anwar said the discussion allowed both leaders to review outcomes from earlier Malaysia-US bilateral talks.

The review covered strategic cooperation areas including trade, technology and regional security.

“I also conveyed my deep appreciation to President Trump for his instrumental role in advancing the KL Peace Accord and the Gaza Peace Plan,” Anwar said in a Facebook post.

He described both initiatives as beacons of hope toward achieving just and lasting peace.

Trump arrived in Kuala Lumpur yesterday to attend the 13th ASEAN-United States Summit.

During his two-day visit, the US president held several bilateral meetings with regional leaders.

Trump also witnessed the signing of a peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia.

The agreement aims to resolve the decades-long border dispute between the two nations.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits were hosted by Malaysia under the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’.

The summits focused on strengthening regional integration and deepening economic cooperation.

They also addressed pressing global challenges including peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region. – Bernama
