Anwar raised Gaza crisis with Trump during presidential car ride

PM Anwar Ibrahim discussed Gaza conflict with US President Trump during their journey in ‘The Beast’ vehicle at ASEAN Summit.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasised that he repeatedly raised the Gaza conflict during his engagements with United States President Donald Trump.

The discussions occurred even during their journey in “The Beast”, the American presidential vehicle, on Sunday.

Anwar characterised Trump as an attentive listener who maintained respectful dialogue despite differing perspectives.

“I shared my views with Trump, but in diplomacy, not everything needs to be shouted in public,” Anwar said at a press conference concluding the 47th ASEAN Summit.

He stressed that Malaysia’s firm stance on Palestine was conveyed throughout the summit proceedings.

The matter was also reiterated during the 13th ASEAN-United States Summit with all regional leaders present.

Anwar expressed dissatisfaction with certain quarters engaging in what he called “cheap political stunts” regarding Trump’s attendance.

He rejected claims that the government had capitulated on international principles.

“Who says we’ve surrendered? Who else dares to speak directly to President Donald Trump?” Anwar questioned.

He emphasised that Malaysia used every opportunity to advocate for a complete solution to the Gaza crisis.

The Prime Minister noted that his private meeting with Trump allowed Malaysia to convey its position directly.

Malaysia currently holds the ASEAN chairmanship, providing additional platform for diplomatic advocacy.

Anwar called for unity in supporting Malaysia’s position on international matters despite political differences. – Bernama
