ASEAN and South Korea partnership can drive inclusive growth, says PM Anwar

PM Anwar says ASEAN-South Korea partnership, with over USD200 billion trade in 2024, can foster inclusive growth and open markets through collaboration.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the ASEAN-South Korea partnership can shape an ecosystem fostering new opportunities, inclusive growth, and open markets.

He stated this potential can be realised by harnessing ASEAN’s vast growth potential alongside South Korea’s technological and economic strengths.

Anwar delivered these opening remarks at the 26th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit today.

He noted the partnership, nurtured over three decades, is built on mutual trust, respect, and shared benefits.

Anwar highlighted that trade between ASEAN and South Korea exceeded USD200 billion in 2024.

“This reflects the strength and resilience of our trade ties,” he said.

He added that the meeting occurs amid technological disruption, strategic competition, and fragmented supply chains.

“Amid these forces, ASEAN and the Republic of Korea stand out as nations that recognise progress must come and can be enhanced through collaboration and cooperation,” Anwar stated.

The summit was co-chaired by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and attended by other ASEAN leaders.

Lee is also scheduled to attend the 28th ASEAN Plus Three Summit alongside Japan and China.

That meeting will discuss ways to further strengthen broader regional cooperation.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits is a three-day event held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

It began on Sunday under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, themed ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’.

The event brings together more than 3,000 delegates, including prominent leaders from over 30 countries and organisations.

It aims to strengthen engagement and cooperation across the region. – Bernama

DXN’s underlying growth stays strong despite currency headwinds

Excluding currency translation effects, the group recorded a strong normalised year-on-year growth of 14.5%, underpinned by robust local-currency demand across Latin America, India and the Middle East. While EBITDA and net profit moderated due to higher aircraft leasing costs and the absence of prior-year one-off gains, DXN maintained solid cash generation, declared dividends with a 59.5% payout ratio, and continued advancing its vertically integrated expansion strategy across Latin America to support long-term growth and supply chain resilience.
