Canadian PM Mark Carney concludes 4-day ASEAN visit in Malaysia

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney departs Malaysia after attending ASEAN summits and holding bilateral talks with Anwar Ibrahim.

SEPANG: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney left for Singapore today after completing his four-day working visit to Malaysia for the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

His special aircraft departed from the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 11.40 am following a ceremonial send-off.

The farewell ceremony included a red-carpet reception and a guard of honour featuring 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh represented the Malaysian government at the departure ceremony.

Carney undertook this working visit at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for bilateral discussions and ASEAN Summit participation.

This marked his first official visit to Malaysia since assuming office as Canadian Prime Minister in March.

Carney and Anwar held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit to strengthen economic and investment cooperation.

Both leaders agreed to explore new opportunities in green energy, innovation, and education sectors.

They committed to pursuing inclusive and sustainable growth through enhanced bilateral cooperation.

Carney also participated in the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit panel session held on Sunday. – Bernama
