Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN chairmanship boosts regional energy resilience, humanitarian diplomacy and foreign investor confidence in strategic sectors.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has established a new benchmark in managing regional affairs and enhancing economic appeal as ASEAN Chair for 2025.
Prime Minister’s senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said the leadership reflects Malaysia’s maturity, strategic foresight and structured approach to regional challenges.
“The Prime Minister has demonstrated strong commitment in leading ASEAN, despite facing various challenges both domestically and internationally,” he told Bernama.
Shamsul Iskandar noted the leadership has focused equally on political, humanitarian and regional economic development matters.
Among key initiatives is the proposal to establish an ASEAN Power Grid to benefit member states and strengthen regional energy resilience.
“This move shows that Malaysia is far-sighted and understands the importance of regional economic cooperation for the mutual benefit of the people of ASEAN,” he said.
Malaysia’s role in addressing Myanmar’s humanitarian situation and easing Cambodia-Thailand tensions has strengthened its image as a credible regional leader.
“Malaysia’s efforts to deploy aid teams and construct hospitals in Myanmar stand as clear evidence of the humanitarian diplomacy approach championed by the country,” he said.
The chairmanship has also positively impacted Malaysia’s domestic economy by boosting foreign investor confidence.
Increased interest is particularly notable in the data centre and digital technology sectors according to Shamsul Iskandar.
“Malaysia is now regarded as a strategic partner by major world powers, including the United States, China, Russia and Arab nations,” he said.
