US orders non-essential staff to leave Niger over safety risks

The US State Department orders non-emergency government employees and families to depart Niger, citing security concerns outside Niamey.

WASHINGTON: The US Department of State has ordered non-emergency government employees and their family members to leave Niger.

The order was issued on Friday due to heightened safety risks in the country.

“The US government cannot offer routine or emergency services to US citizens outside of Niamey due to safety risks,” the department stated in a travel advisory.
