Malaysia welcomes Cambodia-Thailand pledge to implement KL peace accord

PM Anwar welcomes Cambodia and Thailand’s commitment to implement the KL Peace Accord, remove heavy weapons and conduct de-mining operations

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has welcomed Cambodia and Thailand’s commitment to fully implement the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord.

In a Facebook post, Anwar praised both nations’ willingness to pursue dialogue and diplomatic efforts for border peace and stability.

He specifically welcomed their commitment to remove heavy and destructive weapons from border areas.

The leaders also pledged to coordinate and implement humanitarian de-mining operations in a timely manner.

Anwar further welcomed assurances from both prime ministers to avoid provocative actions and promote mutual confidence.

“I appreciate the proactive role and constructive engagement by United States President Donald Trump in promoting peaceful resolution,” he added.

International media reported Thailand’s armed forces chief suspended all agreements with Cambodia following a landmine explosion.

Four Thai soldiers were injured when a PMN-2 landmine exploded during a patrol in Sisaket province.

One soldier lost his right leg in the incident that further escalated tensions after July’s clash.

The Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement was signed by both leaders during last month’s 47th ASEAN Summit.
