Man shares funny MRT parking incident where a fallen number plate stopped the LPR system from working
“MODERN problems require modern solutions,” they say — and one MRT car park incident certainly proved it.
In a post on Threads, Faizal Iqbal shared a tense yet amusing experience involving his friend at an MRT parking complex.
The problem began when the driver approached the exit, only for the License Plate Recognition (LPR) camera to fail because the front number plate had fallen off.
The LPR system is designed to allow vehicles to enter and exit automatically by scanning their license plates, eliminating the need for physical tickets or cards.
But without a properly positioned plate, it simply wouldn’t work.
From the back seat, a friend jumped out to help, trying to hold the number plate near the camera — to no avail. The group of friends were seen giggling at the absurdity of being stuck.
A security guard arrived to assist, and even he couldn’t help but laugh at the situation.
There was no update on how they eventually managed to exit.
Netizens flooded the comment section with laughing emojis. One joked, “Even the LPR camera would be laughing if it could.”
Others shared similar experiences. Muiz recalled seeing a luxury car struggle with the barrier, attempting to use the rear number plate while reversing.
Azizul explained: “LPR cameras usually capture the number plate positioned in the middle of the bumper… If it’s done like that, it definitely won’t be detected.”
