M’sian husband says he’s tired of his wife cooking nasi lemak every few days

“Breakfast nasi lemak, sometimes lunch nasi lemak, and occasionally even dinner.”

NASI lemak is a staple meal for most Malaysians. We would happily dig into a plate with a side of ayam goreng berempah — but would you be okay with eating it for breakfast, lunch and dinner several times a week?

A frustrated Malaysian husband recently took to Reddit to vent about his wife’s obsession with cooking nasi lemak.

According to the man, nasi lemak is his wife’s favourite dish to prepare and her default option whenever she runs out of meal ideas.

However, the frequency has become an issue.

“The problem is she cooks it almost every two or three days.

“Breakfast nasi lemak, sometimes lunch nasi lemak, and occasionally even dinner.”

He shared that while the constant nasi lemak meals did not bother him at first, eating it so often has slowly taken its toll.

“Sometimes I just want something simple like soup, noodles, or even Western food, but I feel bad complaining because she’s cooking with love.”

Although he admitted that the repetitive meals are “slowly driving me crazy,” the man has yet to bring it up with his wife, as he does not want to start an argument over food.

The confession has since gone viral, drawing over 300 comments from Malaysian netizens who offered various suggestions to help ease his predicament.

Many encouraged the couple to take turns cooking or for the husband to suggest alternative dishes and recipes.

“Maybe you can offer to cook 2/7 days or 3/7 days, take some burden off her plate? Or offer to grocery shop so you can pick things you want to eat? Send her recipes to try out? Try cooking said recipes with her? Make it a fun thing.”

Others felt the issue could be resolved simply through honest communication.

“To be honest, you have to communicate with her if you are sick of eating it 4 days a week.”
