M’sian worker’s boss allegedly tries to revoke 6-months bonus, claiming they did not “deserve” it

A Malaysian employee exposes their boss’s threats over a bonus, leading to an internal probe, termination, and a RM2,500 pay raise.

A Malaysian employee recently shared how their boss allegedly tried to revoke their six-month bonus, despite having been informed about it in an official e-mail by the company.

In an anonymous submission on X, the five-part story claimed that the boss went as far as to threaten the employee via WhatsApp. Fortunately, the employee had taken screenshots of the conversation and carefully retained them.

The employee later managed to receive the bonus. Shortly afterwards, the boss reportedly sauntered over to their desk and asked about it.

“I said that I had just received the payment. My boss was shocked and told me that they wanted a part of the bonus because I didn’t deserve it.

“Thankfully, I managed to record them mocking me for only receiving a two-and-a-half-month bonus,” the employee shared in the submission.

The employee then submitted a 24-hour resignation notice, prepared to pay one month’s compensation, and attached evidence of the boss’s threats in an email to the Human Resources department.

“(My boss) then came to my desk at 3pm asking why I had reported them. They tried to threaten me again, but as usual, I managed to record it,” the employee added.

Once more, the employee went to HR to submit the recording, after which the boss was investigated by the company’s head of department.

Later, the employee overheard that the boss had been dismissed immediately, as they had previously been issued with a warning letter.

After the incident, the employee received a message from the former boss, apologising profusely and begging for the report to be withdrawn.

“They were even willing to give me their entire bonus. Oh, and I almost forgot — after they were sacked, the HOD and HR asked if I still wanted to resign.

“They said they needed me and were willing to increase my salary by RM2,500,” the submission concluded.
