Netizens confess to forgetting car doors and engines

Users share surprising stories of leaving car doors open and engines running, sparking debate on safety and forgetfulness

LEAVING car doors open in forgetfulness — do people really think Malaysia is that safe?” questioned a Threads user after witnessing such a scene at IOI City Mall in Shah Alam.

What followed was surprising: many users began sharing their own stories of forgetting to close car doors or even switch off their engines, raising the question — is this common?

Ummi Annuar Humaira revealed that she once left her car in a parking lot with the engine still running for almost two hours.

“(I) went to eat and walk around for almost two hours. When I was about to head back, I couldn’t find my keys and kept searching while walking, only to realise they were inside the car. Thank God, nothing happened.”

Sabariah Abu said she accompanied her husband to a family day event and later realised she had left her wallet and handbag in the car.

“When he went back to get them, he told me the engine wasn’t even switched off. Thank God there was a blessing in forgetting the wallet,” she said, noting that forgetfulness sometimes works in unexpected ways.

Izzatie shared that she once saw a Vellfire with its back door left open on a rainy day, leaving the back seats soaked.

“The next morning when we saw it, we just pressed the button to close the door and left a note as a reminder.”

Another user recounted accidentally leaving her door wide open, joking that she acted like a “passenger princess.”

“That day I completely forgot that I drive a Proton, not a Tesla (with automated doors). Luckily, I realised before walking too far away from the car,” she said.
