Police arrest driver of SUV caught driving with burst tyre

KL police arrested a 32-year-old man for dangerous driving after his Range Rover was filmed with a burst tyre on Sungai Besi Highway

POLICE have arrested the driver of a luxury SUV captured on video driving dangerously with a burst tyre along Sungai Besi Highway.

The 32-year-old man was detained when he appeared at the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station at 10.30 am to have his statement recorded.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa confirmed the arrest in a statement.

Initial investigations found the incident occurred at 8am yesterday when the vehicle’s tyre burst.

“The police also conducted urine and evidential breath analyser tests on the man,” Mohd Zamzuri said.

The driver claimed his vehicle’s tyre had burst after hitting a pothole and he decided to drive home since it was nearby.

A one-minute viral video recorded by a motorcyclist showed a Range Rover Velar being driven with its right rear tyre blown out and rim exposed.

Mohd Zamzuri urged witnesses to contact the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. – Bernama
