A foreign family in a Volkswagen tricks travellers with fake Dubai visa issues and Touch ’n Go top-up scams at R&R stops
SCAMMERS are reportedly targeting motorists at R&R stops with new tactics.
In a Threads post, @nur__kaba shared that a family in a Volkswagen, claiming to be from Dubai, approached her for money while she was at R&R Senawang.
The man in the car asked if she spoke English and explained he was on the way to Johor Bahru but had a visa issue, requesting cash to help him.
“Be careful of syndicates like this. They scam people for cash. I told him, ‘You are a scammer.’ He immediately changed his expression and left,” she said.
She also shared a photo of the sedan car and its number plate to alert the public.
Reposting the warning, @qtperi shared that she was approached by a similar car using the same technique at R&R Rawang on the PLUS Highway heading south.
The man started with the question, “Do you speak English?” and claimed he was from Dubai, had an issue with his debit card, and was cashless, so he could not top up his Touch ’n Go card.
“He said his baby had not eaten for four days. Then he asked for money to top up (Touch ’n Go) so he could go to KLIA. I also noticed that after asking me, he approached a few other people as well.”
“So please be careful, everyone. This is just a scam,” she said, sharing a picture of the similar car that @nur__kaba had posted earlier.
Several others commented that they had encountered the same man, described as a person with Arab descent.
“What struck me as odd was that he claimed to be a foreigner, yet showed a CIMB Petronas card. As far as I know, that card has been discontinued. No idea whose card it was that he had taken,” said Wan Izaruddin.
He added that he immediately said he had no money and closed the window.
“I was a bit worried in case it was some kind of hypnosis or trick. Disgusting behaviour. They should just be deported.”
