Three Kollywood giants descend on Malaysia this December

Ajith Kumar, Vijay and Silambarasan TR visit Malaysia for racing, store launch and massive concert respectively

MALAYSIA is experiencing an unprecedented convergence of Tamil cinema royalty this December, as three of Kollywood’s biggest names arrive for separate high-profile engagements that underscore the nation’s status as a premier international hub for South Indian film culture.

The trio of megastars—Ajith Kumar, Vijay, and Silambarasan TR—are scheduled to participate in distinctly different events throughout the month, generating massive excitement among Malaysian fans who represent one of the largest overseas communities devoted to Tamil cinema.

Racing Star Arrives First

Ajith Kumar became the first to touch down in Kuala Lumpur, arriving ahead of his competitive appearance in the 12-hour Malaysia endurance race at Sepang International Circuit, which takes place on December 7-8.

The actor-turned-racer will pilot a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo in the GT3 class alongside his Ajith Redant Racing teammates: Belgian brothers Ayrton and Yannick Redant, plus Kobe de Breucker.

According to Bernama, Devendran Panersilbam, founder of the Malaysia Ajith Fan Club, personally greeted the star at the circuit. Having led the fan organisation for 14 years, Devendran described himself as a devoted follower since 2001 who has embraced the actor’s principles and philosophy for over two decades.

“Ajith last came to Malaysia in 2015 for the filming of his movie ‘Yennai Arindhaal’. This time, he is returning as a racer, which makes his fans especially proud,” Devendran explained.

The actor is expected to remain in Malaysia for nearly three weeks and has already visited the iconic Batu Caves temple complex. Under Devendran’s leadership, the fan club has focused on charitable work and community initiatives that reflect Ajith Kumar’s personal values.

Star Power Meets Retail

Silambarasan, widely known by his nickname Simbu, had graced the grand opening of MS Gold’s fifth and most expansive gold and diamond showroom on Jalan Masjid India, on Saturday (December 6).

With approximately 15.1 million Instagram followers, the actor’s presence is anticipated to draw substantial crowds to the launch event.

Datuk Abdul Malik Dasthigeer, chief executive officer of Malik Streams Corporation and MS Gold founder, reportedly characterised Simbu’s participation as a significant milestone for the company’s expansion.

Mega Event Promises Record Turnout

The month’s crown jewel arrives December 27 when actor-turned-politician Vijay headlines the audio launch of his forthcoming film “Jana Nayagan” at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

Also organized by Malik Streams Corporation, the “Thalapathy Thiruvizha” celebration is projected to attract over 85,000 attendees—potentially marking the largest gathering of Vijay’s fanbase outside India.

The 10-hour spectacular will feature 30 singers performing more than 40 songs from across Vijay’s filmography, including tracks from “Jana Nayagan,” his 69th film. Indian music director Anirudh Ravichander will deliver a live performance, accompanied by prominent artists from both India and Malaysia.

Political Dimension

Vijay’s visit carries added significance beyond his entertainment career. The actor, currently one of Tamil cinema’s most highly compensated and influential figures, recently launched his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

He has been announced as the party’s chief ministerial candidate for Tamil Nadu’s 2026 Legislative Assembly election, meaning his film career is approaching its conclusion as he transitions into politics full-time.

Malaysia’s Kollywood Connection

The simultaneous presence of these three powerhouse performers highlights Malaysia’s deep cultural and commercial ties to South Indian cinema. The nation consistently attracts major Tamil film personalities for brand partnerships, promotional tours, and large-scale fan celebrations.

This strong audience support stems from Malaysia’s substantial Tamil-speaking population and the enduring popularity of Kollywood productions throughout the country.

The December events represent not just entertainment milestones but also demonstrations of the powerful cross-border cultural connections that continue to strengthen relationships between Malaysia and South India’s creative industries.
