Mujahid and PAS settle defamation suit with confidential agreement

The defamation case between Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof and PAS has been settled confidentially, with PAS issuing a public apology.

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has recorded a confidential settlement in the defamation suit filed by Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof against PAS.

Mujahid’s counsel, Noorazmir Zakaria, informed Judge Roslan Mat Nor that both parties had reached the agreement.

Lawyer Yusfarizal Yussoff, representing PAS, confirmed the matter to the court.

Judge Roslan then formally recorded the settlement based on a submitted joint statement.

He thanked both parties for resolving the dispute amicably out of court.

The joint statement cited a mutual desire to end the dispute given legal costs and pressing national issues.

“Takiyuddin, in his capacity as PAS Secretary-General, without admission of any liability, hereby offers a sincere and unreserved public apology to Mujahid for the post in question,” it read.

Mujahid accepted the conciliatory gesture and agreed to withdraw the civil suit.

Both parties expressed hope the settlement would not disturb national well-being, unity, and harmony.

Mujahid had filed the suit in December 2022 against PAS through its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.

He alleged PAS defamed him via a post on its official Facebook account on October 16, 2022.

The post contained allegations that the former minister supported LGBT culture.

In its defence, PAS had contended the claim was defective as Mujahid failed to identify the individual who posted the statement. – Bernama
