IPOH: Kolej Komuniti Chenderoh Perak (KKCP) clinched the main ‘Best Culinary Establishment,‘ award at the 2nd Hanoi Salon Culinaire 2023 competition held in Hanoi on Nov 21.

The victory was made even sweeter after KKCP bagged 14 out of the 16 overall medals awarded in the competition.

The achievement entitled them to a cash prize of VND22 million or RM4,233, along with trophies and participation certificates.

In a statement, KKCP said the competition provided much-needed exposure for the delegation, led by lecturer Khairul Ashikhin Abdullah Suhami and represented by five of its students.

“The students had the opportunity to apply the knowledge learned in class and to become more efficient and confident in their abilities.

“It is an honour to win not just one but 14 awards out of 16 categories, judged by a professional jury from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, China, Switzerland, Australia, Hong Kong, Britain and Sri Lanka,” the statement read.

In the competition held at the Hanoi International Centre for Exhibition, KKCP won the Grand Champion award; Vietnamese Cuisine Champion through Khairul Ashikhin who took home a cash prize of RM1,543.

For the ‘Real California Milk Pizza Challenge’ category, Muhammad Nabil Hadzrin Hassanudin emerged as the winner in the student category, bringing home RM578, while KKCP also won three gold medals through Muhammad Fikri Kamaruzaman (Alaska Seafood Pasta), Muhammad Nabil Hadzrin (Nhat Huing Mini Tart), and Khairul Ashikhin (Hot Cooking Vietnamese Cuisine).

In addition, KKCP won six silver medals and five bronze medals, including two diplomas in the competition, which was also judged by leading chef from Singapore, Otto Weibel.

KKCP had previously won a total of 10 medals in the La Cuisine 5th Edition @ SIAL Interfood Indonesia 2023 competition held from Nov 8 to 11 at the Jakarta International Exhibition and Arena (JIEXPO), Kemayoran, Jakarta.

Khairul Ashikhin, who is also a senior lecturer at KKCP, was previously appointed as Malaysia’s ‘Lambassador’ by Meat & Livestock Australia for a year. - Bernama
