GUA MUSANG: Residents in Felcra Panggong Lalat here and its surrounding areas take advantage of the Rahmah Sales programme held at the land settlement scheme to stock up on essential items in preparation for the monsoon season.
Siti Khalijah Razali, 30, said she came to shop for essential items at the programme because it would be hard to get into the city if roads were inundated or damaged by floods.
“Usually we have to go to Gua Musang town, which is more than 20 kilometres away, to buy wet and dry food items,” she said when met at the programme.
According to her, the programme, which was held for the first time in the Felcra settlement, which has nearly 1,000 residents, offered various essential goods at prices that were below the market rate.
“The price of rice, eggs, chicken and fish is cheaper than in town. Eggs are only RM11 per tray, and chicken is only RM7.50 per kilogramme, compared to the normal price of RM9 to RM11,” she said.
Sungai Asap resident Ismail Deraman, 60, said he was travelling along Jalan Gua Musang-Lojing when he learned about the programme and decided to stop by because he did not want to miss the chance to get essential items at a cheaper price.
“I bought rice, sugar, chicken, eggs, and other necessities for the monsoon season. I hope this sales programme will be held more often because the prices of items here are lower than in other places,” he said.
Ladang Liziz resident Norliza Mohd Sayuti, 41, said she was looking forward to the programme as it offered various essential items at very reasonable prices.
Meanwhile, trader Sabariah Mohamed Sayuti, 41, said that among the items that sold well at the programme were 10 kg bags of rice and grade C eggs.
“We offer a RM10 discount on each brand of rice, so a 9 kg bag of rice under the brand Mango is sold at RM27 instead of RM37, and a 10 kg bag of Tembikai brand rice is sold at RM30 from RM41, while grade C eggs are sold at RM11 compared to the normal price of RM13.20,” she said.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department, in a statement on Nov 7, has forecast four to six episodes of heavy rain during the northeast monsoon season, from Nov 11 until March 2024.–Bernama
