PETALING JAYA: AirAsia and Malindo Air have suspended international flights to Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, China.

All AirAsia flights from Kota Kinabalu, Bangkok and Phuket to Wuhan, China have been temporarily cancelled until Jan 28, it said in a statement today.

AirAsia advises guests who are in Wuhan to comply with directions by the government and health authorities and to contact their respective diplomatic missions or embassies in China for assistance.

Meanwhile, Malindo Air said its suspension of flights was in response to the travel ban by officials in Wuhan following the Coronavirus outbreak.

It urges passengers with valid booking for travel between Jan 23 to Feb 8, to contact its call centre at +603 78415388 or walk-in to its ticketing office for further assistance.

In Sabah, passengers are being screened on arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport in light of the situation.

Sabah Health and People’s Well-being minister Datuk Frankie Poon said KKIA is on high alert mode and will scan all international flight passengers entering the state.

China announced a lockdown of Wuhan, a city of 11 million people, considered the centre of the outbreak. It was last reported that the virus has taken 17 lives and infected almost 600; and global health authorities are in preparation against a pandemic.

Wuhan’s local government said it has shut down urban transport networks and suspended flights. Authorities have urged residents not to leave the city, unless on special or urgent circumstances.
