Army receives support equipment worth RM100,000 for Op Murni

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Army (TDM) as the lead agency of ‘Operation Murni’ (Op Murni) today received a contribution of RM100,000 from the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) for the procurement of support equipment to be used during the operation and the post-flood phase.

The Ministry of Defence in a statement today said that among the the things that had been procured were adult life jackets, children’s life jackets, umbrellas and some other necessities, in addition to cleaning items such as shovels, rubber boots, and brushes for use during the post-flood period.

“In March, the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) also received the procurement of disaster operation mobility equipment for the operation of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief worth RM9.97 million.

“Among the assets received were the Rubber Inflatable Boat Complete with Outboard Motor 40HP, Assault Boat Aluminum “Vee” bottom Complete with OBM 60HP, Trailer Boat, HADR Boat Carrier and one tonne 4 x 4 Truck – Fitted for Radio,“ read the statement.

The statement added that as of now, a total of 995 officers and 16,094 members of other various ranks from the three MAF service branches, namely the Army, Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) throughout the country were ready to face all eventualities.

The Ministry of Defence said that among the areas currently receiving high rainfall and experiencing floods were in Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor and Perak.

In this regard, it said MAF had mobilised assistance teams including rescue and evacuation of flood victims and providing assistance at relief centres.

“At the same time, the Ministry of Defence has also arranged for the Forward Medical Team to assist the Ministry of Health with health check-ups,“ the statement said.

Earlier, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin received a briefing on Op Murni from the operation leader, Army chief Gen Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman at Wisma Pertahanan, here, with Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman also present.–Bernama
