DOSM organises Statistics Literacy Programme with SM Sains Johor students

KLUANG: The Johor chapter of the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) has organised the Statistics Literacy Programme with students of Sekolah Menengah (SM) Sains Johor in conjunction with state-level 2023 Statistics Day celebration and 2024 Agricultural Census campaign.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the programme aimed at exposing and encouraging students to learn statistical science from an early stage.

He said that this exposure was hoped to help the students in making decisions in daily life, subsequently having a positive impact on life and careers in the future, as statistics describe things scientifically.

“It also provides a more detailed understanding for teachers and students. For example, the implementation of the 2024 Agricultural Census is a method for collecting, processing and disseminating data on the agricultural structure covering the entire or a significant part of a country.

“This programme also promotes the National Statistics Day, celebrated on October 20 every year, to honour statisticians in Malaysia,” he said in a statement today.

During the programme on Dec 3, various other activities were also held for the students, including Fit DOSM and aerobics, tree-planting and school hostel landscape painting.–Bernama
