Johor immigration detains 56 foreigners at Sedenak construction site

JOHOR BAHRU: The Johor Immigration Department detained 56 foreigners in an operation dubbed Ops Mahir at a construction site in Sedenak yesterday evening.

Its director, Baharuddin Tahir, said the foreigners, all men, were detained after 318 local and foreign individuals were questioned in the 2.55pm raid.

“Those detained comprised 13 Chinese nationals, 12 Pakistanis, 12 Bangladeshi nationals, eight Indonesians, seven Myanmar nationals, three Indian nationals, and one Nepalese, aged between 21 and 48 years,” he said in a statement today.

The operation was initiated following public complaints regarding the presence of foreign nationals who were found to be without valid permits or passports.

Baharuddin said all those detained are believed to have violated regulations under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, adding that they have been taken to the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further action. -Bernama
