Missing senior citizen found dead 50m from home

KUALA PILAH: The body of a senior citizen, who had been missing since Jan 2, was found 50m from her house in Kampung Sungai Dua here yesterday.

Salminyah Mohd Yusof’s body was discovered by policemen in a nearby forest at 3pm while they were searching for the 67-year-old victim, who suffers from mental disabilities.

The victim’s sister Kalsom, 70, said policemen had been dropping by the house regularly to provide updates on the investigation.

“However, today, when they were just about to leave, a foul smell began emanating from the forest, and following its trail, they came across my sister’s hand in the bushes.

“The family never thought of looking for her there because it is in a higher area that she could not have possibly ventured into,” she said when met here today.

Kalsom said the family was grateful that Salminyah had been finally found, although in tragic circumstances.

Kuala Pilah police chief Superintendent Amran Mohd Ghani, when contacted, said the victim’s remains were brought to Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah here for a postmortem. — Bernama
