Najib: Budget has nothing to cheer about

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix) says he does not see how Budget 2020 will please the people.

“The government is expected to increase fuel and water tariff and also implementation of new tax next year.

“From what I see, there will be new implementation of tax which includes Digital Tax. The aids provided for the civil servants are not that great as well. Overall, there is nothing to cheer about the budget,” he told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby, here today.

Najib claimed that the civil servants would not be getting the aid promised by the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

“I fear the cost of living for the civil servants will increase because the aid promised by Pakatan Harapan (PH) is simply unacceptable. The salary increase for them (civil servants) more to one-off salary increment compared to what was promised by BN,” he added.

Najib however noted that PH government has increased their assistance for the rakyat but the benefits are minimal.

Meanwhile, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi echoed Najib’s sentiments, saying PH has a lot of unfulfilled promises mentioned in the previous budget.

“A lot of initiatives mentioned last year are pending and now, they have new promises,” he said.
