KUNAK: Police detained an Indonesian man for having in his possession 5.2g of syabu in an oil palm plantation in Kampung Lormalong near here, yesterday morning.
Kunak police chief Supt Baharin Md Tahir said the 37-year-old suspect was detained at 11.30am by members of the Kunak district police headquarters (IPD) Narcotics Crime Investigation Division in a raid dubbed “Ops Sarang”.
“Police found a medium-sized transparent plastic packet suspected to contain syabu, hidden in the folds of cloth placed in the sling bag worn by the suspect,” he said in a statement here yesterday.
According to Baharin, the suspect who was married and worked as a labourer tested positive for methamphetamine.
Baharin said the suspect and the drug were taken to the Kunak police headquarters for further action and the case was being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, he said a Malaysian Armed Forces wheeled armoured vehicle that had skidded and plunged into a 15m deep ravine at Kilometre 19, Jalan Kunak-Lahad Datu on Monday, was pulled out yesterday.
He said there were no injuries or casualties in the accident.
Initial investigations revealed the vehicle in a convoy along with eight other armoured vehicles, was travelling from Tawau to Lahad Datu to take part in a Road Running Exercise. — Bernama
