Sarawak’s first state-run international school to open in 2023

KUCHING: Sarawak is expected to open its first state-owned international secondary school located at Mile 12, Jalan Kuching-Serian, about 19 km from here, by 2023.

State Education, Science and Technological Research Minister, Datuk Seri Michael Manyin Jawong (pix) said the education institution would be known as Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School and the ground breaking ceremony for the project would be performed by Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on Tuesday.

“The school will use the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), Cambridge syllabus and the first intake will comprise 100 students for Form One,“ he said in a statement.

He said highly potential students especially from among the B40 group in rural areas would be identified and given the opportunity to realise their full potential by studying at the school.

He said the school will also have hostels, science and tinkering labs, sports and others supporting facilities.

“Sarawak has planned to set up five state-owned international secondary schools, where four other schools will be located in Sibu, Miri, Bintulu and a yet to be finalise second site in Kuching,“ he added.-Bernama
