PUTRAJAYA: The MADANI Government does not practise favouritism in its allocation decisions, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated today.
He said all allocations are determined by the people’s needs and the principle of balanced national development.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said government funding to all states should not be politicised.
“The MADANI Government has proven its commitment by consistently increasing allocations to opposition-held states,“ he said in his speech at the National Integrity Premier Address and National-Level Integrity, Governance and Anti-Corruption Awards (AIGA 2025).
He specifically addressed claims of marginalisation from several opposition-controlled states in Peninsular Malaysia.
“It’s not appropriate for them to claim ‘we are marginalised, we are wronged’, because the reality is totally different,“ Anwar stated.
“What we have done over the past few years, the MADANI Government has proven that allocations for Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis have been increased, not because we chose to, but due to necessity.”
He emphasised that justice in resource distribution and state development forms the foundation of the MADANI Government’s administration.
Anwar recalled an incident from 2003-2004 when all allocations to public religious schools were cancelled due to political differences.
“I did not agree with that. Yes, there were curriculum issues, but hundreds of thousands of children were sacrificed simply because of political differences,“ he said.
After taking over the administration, the government revived public religious schools, particularly in Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.
Anwar also announced an immediate allocation of RM36 million to repair dilapidated schools serving children in poor rural areas.
“These are our children’s schools. Maybe not our children here, but children in the villages, in poor rural areas. Dilapidated schools must be repaired,“ he said.
He expressed hope that good governance and integrity would remain the foundation of national administration, free from narrow political interests. – Bernama
