MELAKA: The body of a fully clothed man was discovered floating in the Melaka River yesterday afternoon.

Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit stated the victim’s identity remains unknown but he is believed to be of Indian descent.

The victim was still dressed in pants and a shirt and was wearing a string bracelet when found face down in the river around 4.45 pm.

Police received a call about an object floating in the river before the witness contacted Melaka Hospital.

Staff from the Melaka River and Beach Development Corporation and members of the public lifted the victim into a boat and brought him to the river bank.

A medical officer from Melaka Hospital confirmed the victim had died at the scene.

Christopher confirmed police investigations found no injuries or criminal elements on the victim’s body.

A post-mortem conducted at 11 pm yesterday determined the cause of death as drowning.

The victim’s body remains at the Melaka Hospital Forensic Department awaiting fingerprint identification to locate next of kin. – Bernama
