KUALA SELANGOR: The government guarantees that the allocation for building the National Subfertility Centre in Seksyen 17, Shah Alam will remain at RM171 million despite construction material price increases.
Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad confirmed no construction cost increases have been reported to her team.
She stated no additional allocation is needed as the project implementation is currently running smoothly.
“The construction cost of the centre remains as previously approved and is unaffected despite the increase in building material prices in the market,“ Noraini told reporters at Al-Sultan Abdullah Hospital at Universiti Teknologi Mara Puncak Alam.
The project is expected to be completed and operational by 2029.
This specialised fertility centre falls under the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN).
Noraini said the project represents the government’s strategic steps to address declining fertility rates among Malaysians.
It also aims to provide more comprehensive treatment facilities for couples facing conception difficulties.
LPPKN is providing various subsidies and facilities for couples seeking treatment.
These include fertility assessment programmes and assistance for treatments like in-vitro fertilisation.
“Such programmes not only help couples face the challenges of having children but also support the government’s efforts to strengthen the family institution and community well-being,“ she added.
In August, the Department of Statistics Malaysia reported cement unit price index increases between 0.1% and 1.1% compared to the previous month.
This small increase did not affect the overall project cost. – Bernama
