South Korea urges ASEAN to support its END initiative for dialogue with North Korea, aiming to end hostility and promote denuclearisation
SEOUL: South Korea has called on ASEAN to support its efforts to resume dialogue with North Korea.
Deputy Foreign Minister Chung Eui-hae made the appeal during a luncheon meeting with ambassadors from 11 ASEAN member states in Seoul.
Chung expressed appreciation for ASEAN leaders’ support of President Lee Jae Myung’s “END” initiative during the ASEAN-related summit in October.
The END initiative stands for “exchange,” “normalisation” and “denuclearisation.”
It was unveiled by President Lee as his key policy direction toward North Korea during his UN General Assembly address in September.
Chung also stressed South Korea’s commitment to strengthening its comprehensive strategic partnership with ASEAN.
This includes expanding people-to-people exchanges and enhancing cooperation in trade and security. – Bernama-Yonhap
