Train collision kills 11 railway workers in southwest China

A seismic testing train hit construction workers in Yunnan province, killing 11 and injuring two others, with the cause under investigation

KUNMING: A train collision in southwest China has killed 11 railway workers and injured two others.

The Kunming Railway Bureau confirmed the incident occurred early Thursday morning at Kunming’s Luoyang Town station in Yunnan province.

The train involved was “used for seismic equipment testing” and was passing normally through a curve when it struck construction workers who had entered the track area.

Authorities stated the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Transportation services had returned to normal by midday Thursday following the accident.

The two injured workers are currently receiving medical treatment.

Industrial accidents remain relatively common in China, often attributed to insufficient safety regulations and enforcement. – AFP
