Flood conditions improve in Pahang and Terengganu, with evacuee numbers falling to 3,146 people across both states as of Sunday afternoon
KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims in Pahang and Terengganu continued to decline on Sunday afternoon.
A total of 3,146 people remained at temporary evacuation centres in both states as of the afternoon.
In Pahang, conditions in Rompin improved, reducing the number of affected victims to 2,575 people from 859 families.
They were housed at 33 evacuation centres as of 4.25 pm, down from 4,873 people from 1,655 families at 41 centres earlier in the morning.
Based on the Social Welfare Department’s Infobencana application, Kuantan still recorded the highest number of victims.
A total of 1,986 people were sheltered at 19 centres in the district.
This was followed by Pekan with 430 people at six centres, Bera with 69 people at three centres, and Temerloh with 35 people at two centres.
Maran housed 35 people at one centre, while Jerantut had 20 people at two centres.
In Terengganu, the number of flood victims in the Kemaman district dropped to 571 people from 155 families as of 4 pm.
This was down from 921 people from 246 families recorded at 9 am earlier.
The Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said all victims in Kemaman are currently taking shelter at a single centre.
All evacuees are housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Mentok.
Two other centres, SK Binjai and SK Chukai, were closed at noon after all evacuees were allowed to return home. – Bernama
