JOHOR BAHRU: The Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, today launched the operational Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double-Tracking Line.

The project completes the southern rail transport network between Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru.

Tunku Mahkota Ismail was welcomed at Kempas Baru Station by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

The southern route ETS3 service from KL Sentral to Kluang began operating on Aug 30.

It was launched by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.

The 192-kilometre Gemas-Johor Bahru line was developed by SIPP-YTL JV as the main local sub-contractor.

The project constructs 11 new stations across Segamat, Kluang, Kulai and Johor Bahru districts.

It fully transforms the railway corridor in Johor before terminating at JB Sentral.

The national project is a collaboration between the Transport Ministry, KTMB and the Railway Assets Corporation.

KTMB is offering a special 30% discount on fares for the KL Sentral-JB Sentral sector from tomorrow until Jan 11, 2026.

A total of 5,000 promotional codes are available under specific terms and conditions.

Passengers can use the JBBEST code when purchasing tickets via the KITS app, website or kiosks. – Bernama
