Higher Education Minister confirms Politeknik Kota Belud will be completed by 2031, focusing on AI, renewable energy and smart agriculture
KUALA LUMPUR: The government is committed to completing the construction of Politeknik Kota Belud by 2031.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said this effort revives a project delayed since 2018 and restores hope for residents in Sabah’s west coast division.
He stated the polytechnic will serve as a modern Technical and Vocational Education and Training institution and act as a catalyst for future development.
“The reconstruction of Politeknik Kota Belud symbolises the government’s determination to bring meaningful change to the people, enhance youth skills, and drive the growth of new industries in the region,” he said in a Facebook post.
Zambry earlier officiated the foundation stone laying ceremony for the strategic institution.
He emphasised three high-impact focus areas: artificial intelligence-based information technology, renewable energy, and smart agricultural technology.
These focus areas align with the 13th Malaysia Plan, New Industrial Master Plan 2030, and National Energy Transition Roadmap.
Zambry said this ensures Sabah keeps pace with global trends and leads in driving transformation.
He hopes the polytechnic will meet future education and training needs while producing a highly skilled workforce.
The institution is also intended to serve as an innovation hub supporting Kota Belud and Sabah’s economic development. – Bernama
