3 dead, 5 hurt in horror crash on Pan Borneo Highway, Sarawak

A horrific head-on crash on the Pan Borneo Highway near Sri Aman, Sarawak, kills three adults and leaves five others seriously injured.

KUCHING: A catastrophic collision between two passenger vehicles along the Serian–Sri Aman stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway in southern Sarawak claimed three lives and left five others seriously injured this morning, in one of the most harrowing road accidents recorded in the region this year.

The crash occurred at approximately 8.30am near Kampung Selepong Jinggau, located 21 kilometres from Sri Aman town — roughly 200 kilometres north of the state capital Kuching. The impact was devastating: one vehicle burst into flames at the scene, while the other was flung off the road and came to rest upside down in a ravine.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) dispatched rescue teams from Sri Aman immediately upon receiving the emergency alert. Upon arrival, responders made a grim discovery inside one of the wrecked vehicles — one adult man and two adult women had died on the spot.

Critically, two young boys aged four and six were also found inside the same vehicle. Both children survived the impact but sustained head injuries and were swiftly extracted from the wreckage by paramedics before being rushed to Sri Aman Hospital for urgent medical attention.

The occupants of the second vehicle — two teenage boys and an adult woman — fared better but were not without harm, each sustaining injuries of varying severity.

All three were also transported to Sri Aman Hospital for treatment.

In total, three lives were lost and five individuals were hospitalised following the collision.

Bomba personnel at the scene handed the remains of the deceased over to the Royal Malaysia Police, who arrived shortly after to secure the area.

Investigations into the cause of the accident are currently underway.

The tragedy serves as yet another sobering reminder of the dangers on the Pan Borneo Highway, a critical arterial road connecting communities across Sarawak that continues to see fatal accidents despite ongoing development and upgrades along its corridor.
