All 80 Al-Afsari pupils cleared for 2025 UPKK exam

All 80 pupils from SRI Al-Afsari can now sit the 2025 UPKK exam after a resolution between federal and state religious authorities.

KUALA LUMPUR: All 80 pupils of Sekolah Rendah Islam Al-Afsari in Saujana Putra, Puchong, have been granted permission to sit for the 2025 Ujian Penilaian al-Quran dan Fardhu Ain (UPKK) examination following a resolution between federal and state religious authorities.

The UPKK, conducted by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) through state religious departments, requires participating schools to be formally registered.

SRI Al-Afsari had initially been excluded as it was not registered with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) under the Selangor Control of Islamic Religious Schools Enactment 1988.

The decision was announced in a joint statement tonight by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar and Selangor Islamic Religious and Innovation Culture Exco Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah.

The settlement followed multiple review sessions and discussions between JAKIM, JAIS and the school to ensure the pupils’ rights were protected.

“JAIS has granted special permission for all 80 pupils to sit the 2025 UPKK, with adjustments including registration via the UPKK Candidate Registration System, exams held at registered centres, and oral exams for three subjects scheduled after the written papers,” the statement said.

JAKIM and JAIS will continue to monitor the exams to ensure smooth implementation in accordance with standard operating procedures.

The school has also committed to completing formal registration procedures under the Selangor Enactment, with guidance from JAIS.

The government thanked parents and the school for their patience and cooperation, while stressing that any Islamic school operating without proper state registration will face strict action.

“Compliance with regulations and pupil safety remain paramount to uphold the credibility of the Islamic education system,” the statement added, urging all institutions to adhere to registration guidelines. – Bernama
