Agong to officiate Darul Makmur Stadium’s Golden Jubilee celebration

KUANTAN: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah will mark Darul Makmur Stadium’s 50th anniversary by officiating its Golden Jubilee celebrations here this Saturday (Nov 25).

Pahang Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-governmental Organisations (NGO) Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal expressed his gratitude towards His Majesty for gracing the celebrations, stating that the stadium, built in the 1970s, was synonymous with the Pahang royal institution.

“The stadium was officiated by Sultan Abu Bakar Ri’ayatuddin Al-Muadzam Shah (the fourth Pahang Sultan of the modern era) on Sept 30, 1973 and now Pahang Regent, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah frequently exercises here,” he said at a media conference at the stadium here today.

Fadzli also extended an invitation to the public to join in the festivities that will span for four days starting Wednesday, which offers religious talks, a food carnival, bundle sales, a running event and a motorsports performance, along with a concert featuring artists such as Ameng Spring, Datuk Jamal Abdillah and Ara Johari, as well as a presentation by 400 school students in the district, a fireworks display and the launch of the stadium’s new logo.

In a related development, he shared that the stadium’s track, which has been open to the public for three hours from 4 pm on weekdays since June has been well received, according to feedback from the stadium’s management.

“The stadium has huge potential as it is a state landmark and its location at the heart of town…so we can boost its earnings. If last year, we raked in around RM1.2 million and RM2 million this year, then next year we should aim for over RM3 million,” he said, adding that the target could be achieved through rental of halls and trading spots for programmes such as carnivals. -Bernama
