Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Turkish defence industries secretary Haluk Gorgun meet in Ankara to elevate bilateral defence cooperation.
ANKARA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received a courtesy call from Turkish Defence Industries Secretary Prof Dr Haluk Gorgun on Tuesday.
The meeting focused on strengthening defence cooperation between Malaysia and Turkiye.
Key areas discussed included capability development, technology transfer, and training and human capital development.
Discussions also covered existing collaborations between defence companies from both nations.
Both sides emphasised elevating these partnerships to a more strategic and comprehensive level based on mutual benefit.
The talks were held in line with regional security interests and national sovereignty.
Present were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.
Also attending were Malaysian Ambassador to Turkiye Sazali Mustafa Kamal and Turkish Defence Minister Yasar Guler.
Earlier, Anwar laid a wreath at Anitkabir, the mausoleum of Turkiye’s founder, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
He also toured the complex’s museum, which chronicles the nation’s history and founding vision.
“This visit offers a profound moment of reflection on the meaning of leadership, devotion to the nation, and the importance of national values,” Anwar said.
He is on a three-day official visit to Turkiye at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The visit aims to further strengthen the longstanding bilateral ties between the two countries.
