Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim concluded a special visit to Indonesia after meeting President Prabowo Subianto, with both leaders agreeing to intensify diplomatic efforts in West Asia.
JAKARTA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim concluded his special working visit to Indonesia today following a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto.
The discussions at Istana Merdeka, which began at 4.30 pm local time, focused on escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Following the talks, Prabowo accompanied Anwar to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport as a gesture of goodwill.
Anwar departed for Malaysia at about 7.15 pm, concluding the one-day visit undertaken at Prabowo’s invitation.
The visit, Anwar’s first to Jakarta this year, followed a phone conversation between the two leaders on March 23.
In a statement, Anwar said both nations agreed to intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the West Asia conflict.
They pledged to protect civilian lives and open space for negotiations towards a peaceful resolution.
Both leaders also stressed the need to strengthen principled regional cohesion amid global uncertainty.
They emphasised preserving peace and enhancing economic resilience for the well-being of their people.
The approximately two-hour meeting also covered the importance of ensuring global supply chain continuity.
Both leaders agreed strategic trade routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, must remain unaffected.
The meeting marked the sixth high-level exchange between the two leaders since last year.
Their previous meeting was the 13th Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Consultation last July in Jakarta.
