Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says the centralised pig farming project in Bukit Tagar should be paused or moved to a more suitable location.
BANGI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for the proposed centralised pig farming project in Bukit Tagar, Selangor, to be either put on hold or relocated.
He said he would discuss the issue with Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to find the best solution.
Anwar stated the matter was raised in the Cabinet meeting today due to public unease in the affected area.

“I will discuss this with the Menteri Besar and suggest that the project be put on hold first, or relocated to a more suitable area, provided the technology used is fully assured,” he told reporters after Friday prayers.
He added that even with the best technology, a project should not proceed if it causes local concern.
Anwar noted that while the issue falls under state jurisdiction, the federal government is concerned as it has triggered public disquiet.
“This cannot be taken lightly or treated as something that can be resolved easily,” he said.
Earlier, Amirudin said the state government had not yet identified an alternative location to replace Bukit Tagar.
He stated the state remains open to engaging all parties to ensure a more orderly livestock farming system.
On January 10, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, expressed disappointment with the plan for temporary farming in Tanjong Sepat before relocation to Bukit Tagar in 2030.
His Royal Highness said the palace opposed the potential introduction of large-scale, export-oriented pig farming operations. – Bernama
