Three Selayang Municipal Council employees plead not guilty to accepting bribes for business licence and permit applications.
SHAH ALAM: Three Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) employees were charged in the Sessions Court here today with accepting RM3,550 in bribes for business licence and temporary permit applications.
Mohd Hazri Nordin, 41; Muhammad Fauzan Hasbullah, 34; and Mohd Aizuddin Mohd Yusof, 42, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out separately before Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.
Mohd Hazri, an administrative assistant, was accused of receiving RM500 and RM700 from a man via his Maybank account on Jan 20, 2020 and Feb 20, 2020, respectively, at Maybank Jalan Bandar Rawang branch, Gombak, to facilitate the processing of a business licence application for a restaurant.
Muhammad Fauzan, an assistant architectural officer, was charged with receiving a RM1,000 bribe via his Shah Alam branch Bank Islam account on Jan 26, 2024, for allegedly recommending an architect for a temporary annual permit application with MPS.
Both men were charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.
Meanwhile, Mohd Aizuddin, an assistant architectural officer at MPS’s Building Department, was charged with receiving RM1,350 from the owner of a company via his Maybank account at Maybank Islamic Bandar Baru Selayang, Batu Caves, on July 13, 2020.
The charge was brought under Section 165 of the Penal Code for receiving valuable items from an individual connected to his official duties as a public servant.
All three accused have been suspended from duty.
Today’s proceedings were conducted by MACC prosecuting officers Mohd Alimi Mustapha and Arif Asyraf Mohd Khairi, with Mohd Hazri represented by counsel Evie Melynda Jee, Muhammad Fauzan by Zulazrai Zolkapli, and Mohd Aizuddin by Nurul Aeir S. Muhammad Harvian Kamar.
The court granted bail of RM9,000 for Mohd Hazri, RM10,000 for Muhammad Fauzan, and RM4,500 for Mohd Aizuddin, each with one surety.
The court also set Sept 24 for the next case mention involving Mohd Hazri and Muhammad Fauzan, while Mohd Aizuddin’s case will be mentioned on Sept 25.
